This policy explains what personal information Smuggler's Drop collects, why, and what your rights are.

Who we are

Smuggler's Drop is run by Bryn Robinson, a sole trader, trading as Smuggler's Drop. We are the data controller for the personal information described here.

What we collect

Order details: your name, email address, delivery and billing address, phone number (if you give it), what you ordered and any notes you add at checkout.
Payment details: card payments are handled by our payment providers. We never see or store your full card number.
Account and subscription details: if you create an account or subscribe, your login details, subscription choices (size, grind, frequency) and billing dates.
Newsletter details: your email address and whether you open or click our emails, if you sign up.
Messages: anything you send us by email, contact form or Instagram.
Wholesale details: for business customers, contact names, business details and invoicing information.
Website data: basic information about how you use the site, such as pages visited and device type, collected through cookies. See the Cookies section below.

Why we use it

To process and deliver your orders and subscriptions (to perform our contract with you).
To reply to your questions and sort out any problems with an order (contract, or our legitimate interest in looking after customers).
To send our newsletter, new release news and offers (your consent, which you can withdraw at any time using the unsubscribe link in every email).
To keep business and tax records (legal obligation).
To understand how the website is used and improve it (your consent for non-essential cookies).

We don't sell your personal information and we don't use it for automated decision-making.

Who we share it with

We only share information with the services we need to run the business, including:

Squarespace: website, online shop, customer accounts, subscriptions and email newsletters
Stripe and Square: card payments online and at markets
Royal Mail: delivering postal orders
Xero: accounting and invoicing
Google: business email and our listings on Google
Our accountant, for preparing accounts and tax returns

Some of these providers store data outside the UK. Where they do, they use legal safeguards approved under UK data protection law, such as standard contractual clauses.

How long we keep it

Order and financial records: we keep these for 6 years, to meet HMRC requirements.
Newsletter details: we keep these until you unsubscribe.
Account details: we keep these until you ask us to close your account.
Messages: we keep these for as long as needed to deal with your query, and no longer than 2 years unless they relate to an order.

Cookies

The site uses essential cookies to make the shop and checkout work. With your permission, it also uses analytics cookies to show us how the site is used. You can change your choice at any time using the Cookie Preferences link at the bottom of every page.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask us to:

give you a copy of the information we hold about you
correct anything that's wrong
delete your information (unless we have to keep it, for example for tax records)
restrict or object to how we use it
move your information to another provider

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We'd appreciate the chance to put it right first.
